SDK PDF417
Available Options
2DTG offers two SDK options for PDF417 (ISO/IES 15438) decoding software under our trade name icEveryCode™:
| icPDFDS |
— «Standard» robust decoding software with default settings; |
| icPDFPro |
— Professional version with optional add-on (fine tuning) features: |
| PDF Speed |
— Speed control with two optional modes: |
| Robust Mode |
— Standard speed for the highest level of accuracy where critical information is needed and image quality is poor |
| Turbo Mode |
— High speed decoding (2-3x faster than robust mode) for applications where decoding performance time is critical and image quality is good |
| PDF Direct |
— Offers three optional modes which allow the operator to decrease the image capture time if the barcode orientation is previously known. Three Modes - Horizontal, Vertical, and All |
| PDF QP |
— Offers the option to Evaluate Quality Parameters of the PDF417 in accordance with ISO 15415, 15416 |

2DTG’s icPDF SDK – Specifications and Advantages
- Decodes low modulation grade or blurred symbol images, symbols in environments with uneven illumination
- Decodes symbols with damaged borders, perspective distortions, most geometric distortions, even symbols with overall damage up to 40%
- Decodes symbols in random orientation
- Compared to the standard ISO/IEC 15438 for PDF417, quality parameter limit values of Defects and Edge Contrast have been greatly reduced. There for, performance of icPDF is beyond the standard for PDF417
- Evaluates Quality Parameters of the symbol in accordance with ISO 15415 and 15416 and produces detailed reports on image quality, contrast, incorrect interchange of light, black modules (QP Option of Professional version only)
- Able to report to the operator explanations of any non decoded PDF417 symbols
- Convenient interface on program platforms Windows (DLL, ActiveX DLL, ActiveX OCX), Windows (9x-Vista), Windows Mobile 2003, 5.0, 6.0, Windows CE, Linux, and Symbian accessible for easy use from various programming environments
- Input parameter of the decoding software can be of four types:
- Files of BMP, JPEG, GIF, PCX, ICO, WMF, and TIF image formats
- Pointers to the images in memory JPEG,GIF,PCX,BMP formats
- Handle of BMP image
- Two-dimensional array of bytes which correspond to grayscale brightness of pixels and the images can be from black/white to any color palette
PDF417 - Description, Applications and Advantages
PDF 417 is a 2D variable length symbology developed by Symbol Technologies and release to the public in 1994 and standardized as ISO/IES 15438. PDF417 can encode virtually any letter, number, or character and is among the most common 2D symbols employed today. It can accommodate a data capacity up to 2710 characters.
The main merits of PDF417 for productive use are as follows:
- PDF417 contains more storage than 1D linear barcodes. PDF417 can store up to 2710 characters
- Error correction by use of Reed-Solomon error correction codes. PDF417 algorithms can detect and correct erasures, smudges, misprints, and other damage, with a configured amount of redundancy
- Data compaction is available. Several schemes are defined for representation of certain types of data in a smaller space
- PDF417 is bidirectionally decodable so the symbols can be scanned from the top or bottom of the barcode
- User can decide how wide the narrowest vertical bar (x dimension) is, and how tall the rows are (y dimension)
Because of these merits PDF417 has proven to be an efficient two-dimensional symbology and this type of barcode is widely implemented in the a diversity of applications and industries, such as Transport, Identification cards, Venue ticketing, and Inventory management.
